File this under ‘ooh’, ‘aah’, ‘shiny’, and ‘want’. There’s some witchcraft afoot in South Korea as Samsung demoed this ambient-light powered transparent LCD at CeBIT 2011. The prototype was a 46-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and ten-finger touchscreen capability. The insane thing is that with its accompanying solar cells, it is efficient enough to run off the ambient light around it. Let that sink in for a second. You could potentially run it by switching on the light. Granted, unless I intend to turn my window into a TV, or place it in front of a mirror so I can watch myself watch TV (we call that glare, in Texas), I don’t see a particular use for this in a non-commercial setting. I just think it’s bleeding cool and can’t wait to see it in malls and store fronts (or my glass shower door). Video after the jump.
