Ah, the sauropod. The gargantuan long necked dino of the Jurassic Period affectionately named “thunder-thighs.” A name bestowed upon it by the size of its larger than normal hip bone.
The BBC reports on a newly discovered species of sauropod, Brontomerus, lived during the Early Cretaceous Period, shedding more light on (and challenging long held beliefs) about Earth’s early history. Brontomerus also challenges what we know of other sauropod, preferring dry land over some of its more hippo-like brethren.
Sadly, the dig site was compromised early on and many of Brontomerus’ bones may have been sold or destroyed by poachers, but we’re happy to welcome you to the family you sexy sauropod you.
