Verizon workers aren’t very happy this morning. Some 45,000 workers from the land-line division of Verizon have been left in the cold after their contract expired at midnight Saturday without renewal. The workers – who come from Massachusetts to Washington DC – seek better health care costs and pensions, while the corporate office insists that the land-line business has been on the decline (There’s a surprise). Of course, the workers union is quick to pick out that executives are still making their exorbitant salaries.
If you’re waiting for a Verizon service call today, I’d reckon that you’re not gonna see that van pull up. As of this writing, it’s estimated that there are about 100 locations being picketed this morning, with little hope for a quick settlement.
