Patent troll UltimatePointer sues everyone! (Nintendo Wii edition)

Another day, another frivolous patent lawsuit. At least it sure seems that way, in fact it’s getting to the point where it isn’t even fun to post these stories any more; this one however, is one brave troll.

UltimatePointer, makers of the game changing (believe me there’s plenty of sarcasm here) UPoint laser pointer, won patent no. 7,746,321 for an “Easily Deployable Interactive Direct-Pointing System and Presentation Control System and Calibration Method Therefor” in June of 2010 and has now filed a suit against Nintendo for their Wii Remote, about 4 years after the Wii went on sale.

If the story ended here, it would be yet another non-story patent story but UltimatePointer is reaching for the brass ring of trolling – their suit not only names Nintendo of Japan and Nintendo of America, but apparently anyone even slightly involved with the Wii. Per the source article, UltimatePointer has named various retail outlets including QVC and Tiger Direct but does not name Amazon or New Egg. Maybe they’re Amazon Prime subscribers.

Check the blood and guts of it over at Joystiq by clicking the source link below. (Thanks for the tip Killahkax)
